VICTOR "P"

The Victor "P-1" has the classic looks of the iconic "His Master's Voice" logo. And it's in remarkable condition -- even the turntable felt, one of the most ephemeral elements, is original.

Just look at the condition of the original horn decal. Note the "oxidized" support arm, this eye-catching finish was used on some of the most expensive phonographs of the period (Edison "Idelia") -- it was meant to suggest "antiqued" hardware. Today, much of the furniture in stores is "distressed," or artificially antiqued. In fact, the concept of creating "period" finishes has been around for hundreds of years. In 1905, for instance, Edison revamped his cabinet finishes by offering what was referred to as "antique oak" -- long before the phonographs themselves became antiques!

Note the beauty of the original cabinet finish and the crispness of the ID plate. In the designation "P-1," the "P" refers to "Premium." This class of Victor Talking Machine was distributed to firms to be offered as business incentives. For instance, if you bought 1000 pounds of cow feed, you might get a genuine Victor machine as a premium.

Under the cabinet, this original patent label, with the serial number written in pencil at the top right.

The Victor P-1 plays 10" 78 records. Please make special note of the extraordinary condition.
