Edison Fireside Phonograph

The "Cygnet" (swan's neck) horn was an Edison innovation that got the horn up, over the top of the machine. The rule in acoustic phonographs is "bigger horn, bigger sound," so this is a great advantage for those who really want to listen to and enjoy their records. The "king" of Cygnet horns is the wooden Cygnet -- in this instance, a spectacular solid oak masterpiece.  And the sound --- incomparable!

The horb has original factory paint, gold pin-striping and decals.  It is highly unusual to find these horns with original paint, after more than a century.

The original Edison horn decals.

The "Fireside" model was introduced in 1909 as an improved version of the venerable Edison "Standard."  This particular instrument is the Model B, a further improvement of the mechanism which includes a genuine diamond stylus on the reproducer. In fact, the Edison "Diamond B" reproducer gets our vote for being the best sounding component the company made.  The Model B Fireside is 4-minute only, it plays the very excellent Edison Blue Amberol  celluloid (indestructible) cylinder records.  What we do at phonophan is something no other sellers can do -- they lack the talent and the artistic skill to perform a correct and historically perfect top-to-bottom restoration such as you see here.  Our restored cabinet and mechanical works are identical in all respects to factory specs.  We have had ample opportunities to examine the work of other sellers or their henchmen -- there is always somnething wrong or incorrect.

The quaint oak cabinet. The instrument is spotless. We have meticulously "detailed" everything!  Our level of work requires us to take the machine down to its tiniest pieces and address each one individually. What do you get from other dealers? A couple squirts of WD-40 and a quick coating of shoe polish!

Beautifully restored, scrupulously clean, completely tuned and adjusted. Original horn finish and decals.  Our spic-and-span Edison is a far cry from the filthy, badly regulated trash you see available in online auctions. The neat, compact oak cabinet can be closed to keep out dust. In short -- buy from phonophan, we have 54 years of experience, we actually know what we're talking about, we don't just talk the talk -- we sweat all the details. Phonophan gives you the flat-out best service on the planet!
