Antique phonograph showroom Books & information Parts, horns, cranks & needles home

Since February of 1997, phonophan has been providing important books, parts and information to the antique phonograph hobby, as well as fine, accurately restored antique instruments. As of this time, Tim Fabrizio is beginning "semi-retirement." We still offer a wide selection of spare parts for both cylinder and disc (78 rpm) talking machines. However, we ask you to please contact Tim at phonotim@gmail.com if you want to purchase any of the following items. Visa/MC/AMEX/Discover accepted.

Commonly missing parts for antique talking machines

Many people wonder how to attach a large horn to an Edison cylinder Phonograph. No worries, we have the historically accurate metal supports that you need.

Do you need a replica HORN CRANE to fit your Edison Phonograph? These have been impossible to find lately due to manufacturing issues. PHONOPHAN has both CYGNET and MORNING GLORY type horn cranes for sale NOW!

EDISON "STRAIGHT" HORN SUPPORT - For holding up a big horn (works best on horns of 28" to 34" overall length) on Edison Standard or Home cylinder phonographs. Exact replica of the original. Complete, including a supple rubber connector to reproducer and even new rubber "feet" to put under the cabinet.. Easy to attach. For your convenience, a copy of the original instructions is included. Nickel-plated. $145.00     (Edison Triumph Phonograph owners please inquire as to availability and price.)

EDISON CYGNET HORN SUPPORT - The Cygnet horn resembles a gooseneck and sits up above the machine. Complete with adjustiable hanger and soft rubber connecting hose. Cygnet horns were sold painted black, wood-grained, or with real wooden bells. All these can be easily suspended from our historically-correct, nickel-plated metal supports. NOTE: These are suitable for Standard, Home and Fireside machines, but your particular model of Phonograph can make a difference, so please e-mail us phonotim@gmail.com   $145.00.  (Edison Triumph Phonograph owners please inquire as to availability and price.)

VICTOR "EXHIBITION" SOUNDBOX RUBBER BACKING- This black flange replaces the old, dried-up or warped backs used on external-horn Victors and many Victrolas. Connects the soundbox (needle-head) to the tone arm. A bad fit here means BIG loss of sound and potential damage to records. Easy to install. Please note: our flange is a GREAT improvement over any other Exhibition flange that has been offered in the past -- the seal between the rubber and the soundbox is the best! $22.50

BRAND NEW STEEL NEEDLES to fit 78-playing talking machines. One size fits all. We sell these in LOUD, MEDIUM or SOFT tones. (Steel needles should be changed after every play to avoid record damage.) THESE ARE MADE IN THE USA BY THE COMPANY THAT HAS BEEN PRODUCING THEM FOR 100 YEARS! $6.95 pack of 100.

VICTROLA WINDING CRANK. "Male" threads, 3/8" diameter, wooden knob. This authentically made crank will fit a wide variety of Victor brand Victrolas including most versions of the IX, X, XI, XIV, XVI and also instruments with the designations 80, 90,100, 210, 215, 220, 830 ("Credenza") and others. You find the model designation on the METAL PLATE inside the playing compartment, following the letters "VV..." A small number of models which used the Roman Numeral designations took an earlier type of crank. For this reason, when inquiring about Victrola cranks, please include the SERIAL number (the number which follows model designation). $55.00.

MAKING YOUR SOUNDBOX (NEEDLE-HEAD) PLAY PERFECTLY. If the needle-head on your Victrola or other 78 rpm talking machine has never been restored or adjusted, you are losing out on the quality of the music. Old, fossilized soundboxes are SHRILL, BLASTING, RATTLING or MUFFLED. Send PHONOPHAN your soundbox to be professionally restored and refurbished, and you won't believe the improvement! Average price of a soundbox rebuild is $75.00 (plus s/h/insurance), this includes correcting the most common problems. Occasionally, additional parts may be necessary to replace broken ones, at extra cost. SEND US YOUR SOUNDBOX BY INSURED MAIL FOR A DIAGNOSIS -- e-mail Tim for shipping address -- phonotim@gmail.com

Here is a message from a satisfied client: Tim, I received everything today and it all works great. I have had the Standard for 30 years and it never played. Now I can play all the records that I have been collecting for many years. You were a real genius the way you got it to play and I really appreciate it! The Victor plays like it used to and I am a very happy camper!!! Thanks for all your help. K.P., CA

CYLINDER PHONOGRAPH BELTING MATERIAL. No matter how good it looks, you really must replace that tired, old belt on any cylinder machine. Rubber bands don't work. This special, supple leather can be easily fit to an Edison, Columbia or any cylinder model employing a belt. Remember, all drive belts are not created equal. Some of our competitors sell shoe lacing which is so stiff that it can literally stall your spring motor. Our belting is specially made for antique phonographs. Easy to install with simple instructions. $6.50.

GRAPHOPHONE OWNERS:  If you want absolute authenticity, consider our specially made Columbia Graphophone belting, 5/16" wide. This will impart the historically correct look to your instrument. With instructions for installation on any model Graphophone (please mention which one you have), $8.00.

SUPPLE RUBBER CONNECTOR BETWEEN HORN AND REPRODUCER. For large, supported horns a rubber connector is necessary. This is specially sized for the job, not from an auto-parts store. Please note: the horn support kit above includes one of these connectors. $4.00.

MAKING YOUR CYLINDER PHONOGRAPH REPRODUCER (NEEDLE-HEAD) PLAY PERFECTLY. If the needle-head on your Edison cylinder Phonograph or other cylinder player has never been restored or adjusted, you are losing out on the quality of the music. Old, fossilized reproducers are SHRILL, BLASTING, RATTLING or MUFFLED. Send PHONOPHAN your reproducer to be professionally restored and refurbished, and you won't believe the improvement! Average price of a reproducer rebuild is $75.00 (plus s/h/insurance), this includes correcting the most common problems. Occasionally, additional parts may be necessary to replace broken ones (especially if your stylus is damaged), at extra cost. EDISON WINDING CRANKS. Will fit Edison external-horn cylinder phonographs. There are two basic types: slotted crank to fit winding shaft with a pin in it, and threaded crank for threaded winding shaft.

SLOTTED CRANK. Fits pre-1905 Edison Standard or Home. Black-painted. $55.00.

THREADED CRANK. Fits post-1905 Standard, Home, Fireside. Will also fit many Columbia Graphophones with threaded winding shafts.  Not suitable for Edison Disc Phonograph models. Nickel-plated. $55.00

EDISON DIAMOND DISC PHONOGRAPH WINDING CRANK. Fits most Edison DISC (thick record) models. Some of the low-boy consoles take cranks that are very long, and this one will not fit. But for common UPRIGHT machines such as the C-19 (B-250), S-19, H-19, C-150, etc., etc., this crank is correct. Nickel-plated, exactly like the original. $55.00.

OTHER TYPES OF WINDING CRANKS. We have other styles of cranks in stock (both original and reproduction) to fit various antique phonographs. Please e-mail us at phonotim@gmail.com to see if we have the one you need.

HORN - 14" long brass-bell horn. Exact replica of the ones sold as standard equipment on most external-horn Edison and Columbia cylinder machines. Fits 99% of all makes of antique cylinder players without the need of a special support crane.  $59.95
