More photos of the Pathéphone

One interesting thing about the Pathé company of France was that the instruments it sold in countries such as Belgium and England often used distinctive horns. In Great Britain, Pathéphones were offered with this fluted type of horn, with peacock feather stamping around the periphery. Here we see the remarkably well-preserved ORIGINAL paint! Subtle shades of lavender combine with dashes of white. A gold stripe encompasses the whole. This horn is a century-old stunner!

The walnut cabinet carries this identifying brass plate. Above, the speed control may be seen to the left -- at the center is the button for releasing the top of the cabinet -- right, the characteristically-shaped Pathé escutcheon with winding crank (the crank is a replica).

On the front of the cabinet, an exact replica of the original Pathé trade mark label -- with a discus-thrower hurling a Pathé disc!

The Pathé system was technically quite sophisticated. Instead of using steel needles, like many disc talking machines, Pathé designed a reproducing set-up that employed a permanent sapphire stylus. Pathé discs virtually never wear out. That's why the label on the front of the cabinet proclaims, in French, "Pathé discs play without [steel] needles." And the sound quality produced was the best that could be obtained from a talking machine. Even today we marvel at the caliber of the sound! The Pathéphone plays Pathé disc 78s. It comes with 4, but we have many more available.

Pathé motors were of high refinement. The characteristically heavy governor weights keep it smooth-running. The spring barrels are usually horizontal, such as seen here. Pathé increased power by simply making larger versions based on the same design. This motor will run one average 10" Pathé disc per complete winding.

A sweet, modestly sized (horn is 17.5" both long and wide) antique phonograph that will brighten the corner where YOU are!
