Facts about the Red Gem

Our ORIGINAL Edison flower horn has its ORIGINAL translucent red paint. The fact is, these horns were not "primed" before they were painted, and consequently time and poor storage conditions have destroyed the paint on 90% of all examples. It is a HEADLINE EVENT to find one with paint this nice. The metal panels themselves have some ripples and kinks from age, but the paint itself has survived gloriously intact. The Edison Gem Model D and the Edison Fireside both shared this type of horn as standard equipment.

It is difficult to find Model D Gems in nice condition-- if the paint gets badly scratched or flakes off, then 99% of the instrument's appeal is lost. Observe the extraordinary condition of this example.

Seeking to distinguish the much improved Model D Gem from its predecessors, Edison dressed it up with vivid paint and ornamentation. The Model D Gem can play BOTH 2 and 4-minute cylinders, one of the significant improvements incorporated into this model. Note-- the Gem was the smallest of Edison's instruments, and a full winding is required to play a 4-minute record. The machine functions as well as it did when new, it plays a 4-minute cylinder without a problem. Furthermore, our reproducers have been expertly rebuilt and play loudly and clearly.
