"Dear Tim,

Many thanks for undertaking the work on the Vic III, which was delivered back safely yesterday. It seems to me that your approach to these machines has found the perfect balance between conservation and restoration, which, I know, as one concerned myself with historical musical instruments, is not always easy to achieve. The mechanical work on the motor was expertly done - not to mention your quick, accurate and thorough initial assessment of the source of the problems, but it was the finely calculated set-up of the Exhibition soundbox that was especially telling: the result is loud, clear, undistorted and incredibly focused: I haven't heard one sound like that before, showing that both technical skill and an acute musical ear are necessary in equal measure to make these reproducers work optimally...

What the unexpectedly fine result shows me is just how much more impressive the authentic sound of 1906 or so is than most present-day owners of these machines will have experienced. Add in the usual large, resonant room in which these gramophones were designed to be used and you have something that sounds extraordinary indeed - and must have blown them away in the 1900s. As a professional musician and recording producer myself, I heard the difference instantly, and it was quite an eye- well, ear- opener. Remarkable, in fact.

Needless to say, I was also grateful for the obvious care taken in carefully packing everything up, as well as your efficiency and concern in communicating everything throughout this - remarkably expedited - process. The machine is a credit to you, and I have others that I would like to send your way. Once again, many thanks,"

sincerely,

"Tim- I received the Home this afternoon ( usually comes in the morning ). I was amazed at how the machine sounds after restoration. Smooth running and quiet ! You have a reputation for outstanding restoration work and this certainly bears that out. A very professional job. I look forward to getting another 100 years out of it. Thanks," R.R., MA
